Thethrift store at Granville street and 68 Ave Vancouver (Granville St , Vancouver, BC V6P 4Z7) forced me to quit the position, since nobody can do the job on their requirement in the long run.
First, they paid me $10.25/hour for the half year of probation, a co-worker named Gullam told me that he only got $10.50/hour for 7 years of working for the company. The manager forced me to stand over 2 hours without any sitting down everyday.
I am 44 years old, yesterday, the manager commanded me to stand from 3:00-6:00pm without any sitting down, even Sue, her assistant complained me when I leaned against the wall. The senior employee could sit down a little bit every 20-30 minutes. Nobody can stand 2-3 hours without sitting down in the long run. I think that it might be acceptable if it's increased the work efficiency, but normally everyone got tired after standing over 1 hours without sitting down, and the working speed decreased as well. Nobody won, it was a bad management.
I have just worked two days, 16hours for them, and the store did not give me any training, any orientation, Stella, the manager commanded me to be the cashier and safety guard. Booda, a new immigrant lady told me that the store did not allow her to sit down over 2 hours. I saw the cashier Maria paged Booda when she went to washroom after over 2 hours standing without sitting down, which was a bad practice. We are human being rather than a machine.
Today, the manager, Stella told me that her job required the employees to stand within 4 hours without sitting down, which has asked for too much and is against the labour law. There were too much workload, last night, only Maria, Booda and I were working, and over 30 customers. Booda told me that sometimes only two employees were working at the busiest night of weekends.
It is a miserable workplace!
